God's Promises: The Problem - Genesis 2 & 3

Welcome to virtual worship for Second Presbyterian Church.

You are invited to gather everyone in your household (pets count too!) to sit around your computer, tablet, phone, or TV and worship God together. If at all possible for you to do this around 10:00 on Sunday morning, that would be wonderful so we can know that we are worshiping together even though we can’t be together physically. You can follow along with the script – when a video is present, just click on it to listen or even sing along. I have found two song choices for each “hymn” a more traditional organ led music is the first (or on the left) and a more contemporary version or song is the second (or on the right). Choose what is best for you or even listen to both if you prefer.

Virtual Pew Pad

Please let us know that you are worshiping with us this week.

Let us come together (in spirit) and worship God!

One: Lift up your voice and call out to God.
All: We cry out, believing that God hears us.
One: Come together and wait for God.
All: We come together, trusting that God is still speaking.
One: Surely God’s presence is here with us now.
All: We wait in hope, for God’s steadfast love lifts our hearts.
One: Come, worship the Lord.
All: We celebrate the power of God that restores us.

HYMN – Praise My Soul, The King of Heaven or Grace Like a Wave

Call to Confession

One: Since the Garden, God has been calling to us, “Where are you?”
Since the Garden, humans have been hiding in shame.
Let’s stop hiding and bring our sins to light.

Prayer of Confession

All: Our God, you created the world and called it good.
You created man and woman in your image
and called them very good.
But we have been deceived by half-truths and false promises.
We have tasted temptation and it is bitter in our mouths.
We thought our desire for forbidden fruit would bring us wisdom,
but it brought us only the curse of pain and death.

Please cover us in your love.
Take away our sin.
Restore our relationship with you, our God.

Words of Assurance

One: 1 Corinthians 15 tells us:
For since death came through a man,
the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.
For as in Adam all die,
so in Christ all will be made alive.
All: Thanks be to God!
He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

All: Prepare our hearts, O God, to hear your Word and obey your will.
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. AMEN

HYMN – Give to the Winds Thy Fears or No Shame
