Virtual Worship - 7/19/20

Transformed - Job 42

Welcome to virtual worship for Second Presbyterian Church.

You are invited to gather everyone in your household (pets counts too!) to sit around your computer, tablet, phone, or TV and worship God together. If at all possible for you to do this around 10:00 on Sunday morning, that would be wonderful so we can know that we are worshiping together even though we can’t be together physically. You can follow along with the script – when a video is present, just click on it to listen or even sing along. I have found two song choices for each “hymn” a more traditional organ led music is the first (or on the left) and a more contemporary version or song is the second (or on the right). Choose what is best for you or even listen to both if you prefer.

Virtual Pew Pad

Please let us know that you are worshiping with us this week.

Let us come together (in spirit) and worship God!

CALL TO WORSHIP

One: Though we could be resentful,

All: we come to give thanks.

One: Though we could be complaining,

All: we come to offer appreciation.

One: Though we could be upset about what we lack,

All: we come in gratitude for what we have.

One: We enter now into this time of worship

All: carrying seed to sow, singing songs of joy, rejoicing together.

HYMN –  Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

One: Trusting in our Gracious God, let us confess our sins.

All: Merciful God,
our thoughts and deeds too often
do not reflect the grace you show us.
Our speech and actions too often
do not proclaim your salvation.

Forgive us, Lord, for the sins that we bear
both as individuals and as your Church.

God, our teacher, let us see again!
Give us the courage to take heart in your grace.
Give us the strength to get up.
Give us the wisdom to hear your calling.
In Jesus name we pray, AMEN

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

One: Take heart, get up; Jesus is calling to us!
We can trust in the one who has guided the church for two millennia.
Through Christ, God forgives us our failings,
and continues to call us into a community of mutual love and forgiveness.

Hear and believe the Good News of the Gospel: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

All: Hallelujah! Amen.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

All: Mighty God,
you spoke to your servant Job our of the whirlwind, and he was transformed.

Speak to us through your Word today, that we may also be transformed.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

HYMN – Go, My Children, With My Blessing or Beautiful Things
