Virtual Worship - 6/28/20

Rev. Chip Hardwick - Romans 6:12-23

Welcome to virtual worship for Second Presbyterian Church.

You are invited to gather everyone in your household (pets counts too!) to sit around your computer, tablet, phone, or TV and worship God together. If at all possible for you to do this around 10:00 on Sunday morning, that would be wonderful so we can know that we are worshiping together even though we can’t be together physically. You can follow along with the script – when a video is present, just click on it to listen or even sing along. I have found two song choices for each “hymn” a more traditional organ led music is the first (or on the left) and a more contemporary version or song is the second (or on the right). Choose what is best for you or even listen to both if you prefer.

Virtual Pew Pad

Please let us know that you are worshiping with us this week.

Let us come together (in spirit) and worship God!

One: I will sing of your steadfast love, O LORD, forever;
All: with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness
to all generations.
One: I declare that your steadfast love is established forever;
All: your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.
One: You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to my servant David:
All: ’I will establish your descendants forever, and build your throne for all generations.’”
Praise the Lord!

HYMN – I Will Sing the Mighty Power of God or Holy in the Lord

One: Sisters and brothers, let’s not let sin control the way we live. Let’s not give in to sinful desires. Rather, let’s offer ourselves to God, who through his mercy has brought us from death to life. Let us join together in the prayer of confession

All: God, we confess that we have sinned in your sight. Despite our best efforts and intentions, we have failed to consistently live in ways that bring honor to your name. Forgive us.
Through the grace of Jesus Christ
and the power of the Holy Spirit,
set us free from the grip of sin—
from attitudes and actions that do not lead to life.

One: Once we were slaves to sin, living lives that led only to death. But thanks be to God!  In his mercy, he has set us free from the power of sin and death, and has offered us forgiveness and eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord! Now you are free to choose life, and to use your life to bring honor and glory to God!

All: Thanks be to God!

All: Lord God,
help us to know your ways;
teach us your paths.
Lead us in your truth, and teach us,
for you are the God of our salvation;
for you we wait all day long. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

This morning, our guest preacher is the Rev. Chip Hardwick.
Chip is the Interim Executive of the Synod of the Covenant.
Chip has gifted this sermon to the pastors of the Synod so that they may enjoy a week of Sabbath.
