Virtual Worship - 4/19/20

So, What Do We Do Now? - Acts 1:1-14

Welcome to virtual worship for Second Presbyterian Church.

You are invited to gather everyone in your household (pets counts too!) to sit around your computer, tablet, phone, or TV and worship God together. If at all possible for you to do this around 10:00 on Sunday morning, that would be wonderful so we can know that we are worshiping together even though we can’t be together physically. You can follow along with the script – when a video is present, just click on it to listen or even sing along. I have found two song choices for each “hymn” a more traditional organ led music is the first (or on the left) and a more contemporary version or song is the second (or on the right). Choose what is best for you or even listen to both if you prefer.

Let us come together (in spirit) and worship God!

People of God,
the Lord of glory, Jesus Christ, sends his greeting to you.
And his greeting is this:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, through the working of the Holy Spirit.
This is the greeting of Christ, who arose from the grave.

He died and rose that we might have eternal life.
All thanks be to him!

This same Christ has ascended to the Father.

He ascended that we might experience God’s presence and power. All praise be to him! Alleluia!

HYMN – Allelluia! Sing to Jesus or Great Are You Lord

Almighty God,
we confess that we have our eyes set in the clouds instead of on the earth You have given us.

We desire heavenly treasure but we keep believing that worldly means will help us attain it.

Forgive us for our short sightedness. Draw us away from the temptations to seek worldly power and measures of success, and call us to the down-to-earth message of Your love, to care for the needs of those around us, especially the oppressed and marginalized.

You have called us through scripture to care for the widows and orphans among us; help us to see all those who are left out by society and are in need. Help us to break down the dividing walls that we have placed, so that we may truly be one, as You and Christ are one. For it is in Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

Who is in a position to condemn?
Only Christ,
and Christ came for us, Christ lived for us,
Christ died for us, Christ rose for us,
Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us.
Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation.
The old life has gone; a new life has begun.

Hear and believe the good news of the Gospel: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Hallelujah! Amen!

Almighty God, through your only Son you overcame death and opened to us the light of eternity. Enlighten our minds and kindle our hearts with the presence of your Spirit, that we may hear your words this day, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

HYMN – To God Be the Glory or Good Good Father
